WHAT IS ‘TIMELESSNESS’ REALLY?
The word ‘timeless’ is used so often to describe fashion collections that it has almost lost its meaning. ‘Timeless’ often refers to classic pieces that will be relevant for more than two seasons. But can you really not tell from which era it is? Is the collection described really detached from time?
What I love about these pieces from Levi’s vintage is that they are truly timeless. You can not tell if these are clothes from the 1930s, 1970s or 2015. It are essentials that have proved to be so good they didn’t change over time. They are so basic that they are still relevant even 75 years after they were first designed. Or in case of my favorite pair of jeans, a white vintage 501 – still relevant after 225 years. That to me in incredible!
Romeo and I shot these images for Levi’s vintage and HighSnobiety. To see the full series and if you’re curious about the exact dates from which the pieces that we’re wearing are, click here.
Never looked at the word timeless that way. your points of view are always food for thought
A very interesting article! But I wonder how you find truly vintage pieces and know the exact years they were made in. There’s so much questionable “vintage” stuff on eBay for example! And even modern merchandise that doesn’t pretend to be vintage is tagged “vintage”, for better searchability. So in this ocean of “vintage” fad, how can you really know? Especially when it’s about “timeless” pieces? Seriously, if I know for sure that something is vintage it’s usually because it looks hideous and is made of some scratchy polyester. 🙂 Maybe it’s a subject for a separate post but some tips on vintage shopping would be of great interest, to me anyway. 🙂
Hey Olga – Yes! I did a couple of vintage shopping guides a few years back:) > here’s a link to the most recent one > http://love-aesthetics.nl/three-step-thrift-guide-2/
