You might have already seen on instagram that I’ve been working on this leather sideways top. The hardest thing about it was getting the shape that I wanted while keeping it clean without seams and darts. It is slightly A-line, flares out at one side and exposes some skin on the other side.

I got inspired while shopping with my daughter Lois. I was thinking about how big she has gotten and remembered some of her baby clothes. Her very first dresses had buttons on the side, so you wouldn’t have to pull the clothes over the little baby’s head and could dress them easily without stress. Also because the heads of newborns are big compared to their bodies, the neckline would be too wide around those little necks haha. And I realized I have the same issue with leather: it does not stretch, so for leather tees with a high neckline a closure is needed. I applied this sideways technique with two rose gold stud buttons.

Learning how to sew is on top of my to-do list this summer. I wonder if it’s hard to sew leather though?
It’s a mission impossible trying to find a nice leather product (minus jackets) in stores without it being too expensive…
