Like a big reminder of all good things. A steady start of the day. Something to get the positive vibes and energy flowing. Before I take my phone off airplane mode in the morning – before showering – before my kid wakes up – before coffee – before the interwebz starts to scream for attention – I do a little practice. Even if it is just 10 minutes. Thanks Nike for the comfiest Yoga attire)
It works like a morning-memo, a real note to self
/ The simple act of focusing on the physical reminds me not to overthink too much and just take action.
/ When movements become easier and lighter, it reminds me that I am capable of change and growth, that my body and mind are adaptive and flexible.
/ It reminds me that I am my main resource, it makes my phone and my computer (who I am dearly attached to) seem silly. We all have this amazing body with thumbs and a big creative brain, that will run for us, repair itself, keep breathing all night while we were asleep, that can grow stronger and more flexible if we train it. Taking a moment to appreciate that, noticing little bruises slowly disappear day by day, reminds me to be extra thankful for my body and take good care of it.
/ It reminds me that I have a muscle on the inner side of my leg that I rarely use.
/ It reminds me me how accomplishment feels like.
Depending on how much time I have in the morning, I practice 10 to 30 minutes. And sometimes when my day isn’t going great – I go back to bed, close my eyes for 5 minutes and pretend to start over with a new practice. Try it, it works like a reset button. When there are a million things going on, my morning Yoga practice helps to put me in a focused and steady state of mind.
