2017 / CLEAN FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This one single thing to keep in mind will make all my other new year’s resolutions obsolete while at the same time will help to make them all happen.

So this is the concept /

We have no control over our thoughts. We can’t stop them. We can’t even predict them. We can’t even say for sure what thoughts will pop into our mind next week or tomorrow. The steady stream of thoughts keeps going, adjusting itself to the input it has had, like an algorithm. The input from everything we see and learn, every single thing that is registered with our eyes and ears, through experiences, stories, conversations and everything that comes in through our screens – will determine what the output (our next thought) will be.

I think it is important to realize that everything that comes in through media, social media and advertisements are also things that will be part of the mix of information that will ultimately form a thought. Which will form an opinion, set your priorities, influence your taste, influence your values.

You could quite literally say: the input = the output.

The only sort of control that we have over our thoughts is somewhat being conscious of the input our brains are getting. Deciding what you “feed” your brain with, seems to be the only way of giving your future thoughts a sense of direction. So feed it with clean, high quality information, experiences, images, movies, music – no junk food!

Note to self and point of focus for 2017: direct, balance and curate my input even more.

Really inspiring post, and so many truths on it. Will make this part of my routine, taking care of what I see, who I follow, what I read, I would also add the people you hang out with and the conversations you have with them. Everything matters.

Love reading this post, and this is such an incredibly smart way to think about, what we consume through media and how it affects our thoughts! Great read!x

  4. Very good thought to live by. For a few years I set intentions with a yearly credo. The last one was “Masterteacher”, discovering what I can learn from other people. For 2017 I chose “ubuntu” – in terms of “what can i do for you?”. With these credos in mind, I think it helps with the input or be more focused on the input.
